For anyone who was born with barely-there-brows, there is a new trendy treatment that promises fuller, bolder brows: 3D Mist Eyebrow Embroidery.
This treatment has been popular in Malaysia and Singapore and is starting to catch on in the USA. It is also known as ” semi-permanent makeup”, “microblading” or “cosmetic tattooing”. It is technically a form of tattooing, but the process involves implanting pigment beneath the surface of the skin with tiny disposable needles in a way makes it look like hair strokes. It’s meant to give thin brows the appearance of natural thickness and volume.
Is it safe?
As with any cosmetic procedure, eyebrow embroidery is safe just so long as you are careful about where you go. In order to make sure you get the best quality treatment and minimize your risk of infection, make sure your technician is qualified and certified by a reputable company. Also, ask about sterilization. It is very important that all tools used are completely sterile to avoid the transmission of infectious bacteria. I highly recommend E- Image Aesthetic in Puchong.
Who needs it?
it is usually meant for people with thinning eyebrows, bald spots in their brows or people who have over-plucked. Eventually, brow hair stops growing back so if you plucked away your shape in a desperate attempt to achieve the once-stylish super thin brows, eyebrow embroidery could be the solution for you. It’s also ideal for alopecia sufferers.
Watch my Vlog to check out the process and the before and after. A lot of people think they need to shave or remove their existing eyebrow hair before the treatment, but that’s not the case. Although this would absolutely be the case for a regular body tattoo, we keep and include as much of the natural brow hair as possible.
- deciding on a brow shape. Because it’s semi-permanent, it’s important to choose something you’ll like and want to keep for a long time.
- Once the shape has been determined, the artist applies numbing cream to the area around the eyebrows and the microblading begins.
- The entire appointment, including all the prep work, is generally about 2-3 hours, but the actual microblading process is about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the job.
Does it hurt?
It doesn’t hurt. Before the microblading process begins, the artist will put numbing cream all over your eyebrows to minimize the pain. Or I would say it is annoying but bearable.
It Lasts a Long, Long time
Because the process is done within the surface layers of your skin, it can last up to two years. E-Image Aesthetic recommends annual appointments to keep things looking fresh and crisp.
This is the video I took 5 hours after the 3D Mist Eyebrow Embroidery.
The photoS below was the first night after the 3D Mist Eyebrow Embroidery. To make sure you get the best results possible, pre-select a colour with your technician. Keep in mind that the colour will lighten over the next two weeks.
I always have the common problem of the brows do not match the shape of the brow muscles so when they flex, the newly embroidered brow can look out of place. With a qualified technician, this is not likely to be the case. Make funny faces and flex those muscles around to see if you’re happy with the positioning. Once the procedure is done, it will be too late to make any changes so better to be safe than sorry.
Just to emphasize, here again, it is really common to have the unbalanced shape of the brow muscles when you flex, if you observe, we have an unbalanced size of eyes and smile too. So it is fine.
Yet to form a scab.

After 3 weeks (bared face)
After 5 weeks
Aren’t they perfect? it really saves a lot of time for me, I can now go out with only foundation and lipstick. Never regret having my 3D Mist Eyebrow Embroidery done.
Do your eyebrows lose their shape easily in the afternoon, or do you hate the clumps that appear while using a pencil brow ? As with any form of tattooing, there are certain risks associated with microblading. In order to keep yourself safe, be sure to follow pre- and post care instructions and follow proper hygiene when washing and touching your face. Also, make sure to choose a sterile salon where they only use single-use, disposable needles and supplies. Allergic reactions and irritations to the treatment are incredibly rare, but they do happen in extreme circumstances. Speak to a doctor / E-image Aesthetic before going in for the treatment.
I am happy with the result so far, I can’t wait to go back to E-image Aesthetic for the touch up in March. Stay tuned to check out my progress, I will update it here soon.
