2017 New Year’s Resolution : my fitness journey with Triaction Triumph

It’s July now, I know you didn’t achieve your NEW YEAR’s resolutions in 2016. I say that confidently, even though we have never met, because research shows only 8% of people actually achieve them. So statistically, I bet you didn’t. I am slowly achieving what I set out to do, I am keeping my NYS. Continue reading if you are keen to know my NYS.

How do I be the one of those elite few who actually keep their NYS? First, I make my goals specific. People proclaim, “I’m finally going to get in shape.” But what does that actually mean? Do you intend to reach a certain weight? I make my goals measurable, instead of “get in shape”, I make myself hitting the gym 3 times in a week.

Secondly, I measure progress. I have decided to spend more quality time with my family this year, so I cut down unnecessary outings with friends. As such, I will have more time to plan more outings with my family. I write down how many times I hang out with friends vs family on my notebook, these feedback loops will be a source of motivation as you reflect on where you started and where you are. It will also help you to know when you are hitting a plateau or slipping backward, so you can adjust your efforts. 

Third, share my goals with friends & family.  Social support is critical. Yes, it takes some personal courage and vulnerability to share something that you might actually fail at, but to dramatically increase your odds of success you’ll want support from those around you. One of the most effective things you can do is to get an “accountability partner”, someone who checks in with you daily or weekly. It’s easy to break a promise to yourself, but far harder to admit it to a friend.

Fourth, schedule it. Treat these New Year Resolution’s appointments just like they were scheduled doctor appointments. You rarely reschedule your doctor, you should treat this time the same way. That which is scheduled gets done. Once I have my resolutions set, for instance, I want to read newspaper every day, I must at least read a chapter of my research study in a week, I schedule it on my time table. There are often temptations like birthday celebrations, dinner gathering or more, I know it is hard to turn all down so if I ever go out, I make sure I replace the session immediately on the next day.

I am so proud that I managed to meet the timeline and milestone now, a little stressful and friends are complaining why I didn’t hang out with them anymore. Well, struggles are required in order to survive. I hope you understand and I wish that one day I will make it to my point of making it, and I will appreciate the struggles.

I am still trying to balance my study / work / family time. It is not easy to keep these three elements balanced. Well, thank to my hubby’s support too, for his patient and loving kindness.

I believe in order to achieve the above NYS, a healthy body and mind come first. So, this year, my #sweatitout NYS has been carried out smoothly. Thank you my “accountability partner” – Triumph Malaysia, my gym kaki(s), my hiking buddies and swimming mermaids, without your support I would probably couldn’t make it this far.
